Whatever the season or the place you live in the world, it is always important to respond to your skin’s cravings. Like the dark chocolate we want in the evening, our skin wants also a little boost that will make it feel satisfied and happy. Therefore, we need to nourish ourselves with the best products. In this case, let’s look at the cravings during the cold weather!
What is your skin craving?
Everyday, we need to be TLC with our skin. It is all about protecting your skin and creating a barrier from the nasty chemicals we are surrounded by (cars, pollution, etc…). During the colder times, we can expect our skin to feel more often extra dry. And usually, we have a tendency to exfoliate more to take off the dead skin. In reality, it is better to be gentle to the skin and exfoliate less.
Don’t get me wrong, exfoliation is an amazing and essential tool to help your skin cells regenerate and have a glowy look. However, beforehand, it is important to know the difference between a chemical exfoliator than a physical exfoliator.
Before you panic to the word chemical, let me explain. Everything around us is made of chemicals. There are good and bad chemicals like everything in the world. For example, water is a chemical and it is your biggest ally for your health.
There are two kinds of exfoliator
In the physical one, you can find little granules like in peelings or scrubs which is the most known to use. For a mild physical peeling we use the konjac sponge. For the chemical exfoliator, although it sounds scary at first to put “chemicals” or “acids” on your face, most chemical exfoliators are actually composed of weak acids, like salicylic acid and glycolic acid, to give your skin a mild exfoliation. However, it is recommended to meet with a dermatologist who will prescribe you the best exfoliator according to your skin’s needs.
The number 1 craving during the cold
We could never stress this enough and your grandma would totally approve: hydrate yourself! Drink those 2 liters of water a day as a tea, infused or just plain! Your body will thank you later. Nourish it also from the exterior with extra-rich creams and masks. The SMPL cleansing cream for instance can be used as one. Leave it as a thick layer on your face for 10 minutes and you have created yourself a hydrating mask!
You can now create your own spa day at home with an exfoliator and a mask of your choice. Of course, don’t forget the lemon-infused water to give a little citrus kick!
